Registered Massage Therapist
Laura grew up on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, finding an interest in the body, alignment, and healing processes through her love of dance. Following this passion took her to Halifax and then to Toronto where she studied her chosen art form intensely, becoming a devoted dance instructor and performer.
In order to further pursue her interest in health care and fitness, Laura began to study massage therapy at the renowned Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic in Toronto, graduating in 2009. She practiced in Toronto as a member of the elite team at ProCare Rehab led by Karen Orlando, one of the top physiotherapists in Canada and a vital member of the Olympic and Paralympic medical team.
In 2011 Laura moved back to Halifax and opened Serpentine Studios, where she currently teaches dance and therapeutic exercise. It was at this time when she joined the excellent team at the Halifax Osteopathic Health Centre; and loves the multidisciplinary environment.
Over her career she has had the chance to treat a variety of different people from elite athletes to pregnant women, seniors, children, and cancer survivors. Laura has the ability to help her clients through frustrating and painful conditions, giving them the tools and knowledge to help themselves get better at home as well.
Known for her skill in deep-tissue work, Laura’s well-rounded education includes myofascial release, trigger point therapy, lymphatic drainage, passive stretches, joint mobilization, remedial exercises and more. She has taken post-graduate courses in deep-tissue techniques, various self-care methods, and jade stone massage. This variety of methods allows her to work with her clients to find an approach that works best for each individual. She has found success in treating headaches, chronic back/neck pain due to postural imbalances, plantar fasciitis, whiplash, athletic injuries and many more conditions as well as managing Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, and other chronic pain syndromes.
