Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a series of assisted stretching techniques done by a certified therapist and based on the most recent research on fascia. It was designed by Ann and Chris Frederick, who work with Olympic athletes as well as NFL, NHL, and NBA players to improve their flexibility and athletic performance. It differs from stretching isolated muscles in that it works the entire body’s connective tissue system. It combines gentle joint traction and deep breathing to calm the nervous system and release tension.
FST is not just for athletes; it can be used by therapists to restore mobility after injury. It can also improve movement patterns, posture, and circulation. It is done by a certified Fascial Stretch therapist on a treatment table using comfortable straps to ensure the client is relaxed and supported.
Kelly Whitman is a Physiotherapist and Certified Fascial Stretch Therapist (FST-1) who now offers this service at The Halifax Osteopathic Health Centre. Her one on one physiotherapy sessions include a combination of manual therapy, clinical Pilates, alignment correction and Fascial Stretch Therapy
