Our pelvic health/rehabilitation physiotherapist Amy Heffernan has post graduate training is Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation.

Why Choose Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specific type of physiotherapy that focuses on the pelvic floor region and can include the muscles and fascia of the pelvis, hips, back and thorax.

What to expect on your first visit for pelvic floor physiotherapy

During your initial physiotherapy visit, you and your physiotherapist will discuss your medical history,  your pelvic floor concerns, past and present and how they impact your life. Often this discussion can be emotional; it is important to be honest with your physiotherapist about how you are feeling, so they can provide you the best environment.

Generally pelvic floor physiotherapy includes internal assessment of the vagina and/or rectum; in addition to an assessment of other joints and muscles that may be related to your pelvic concerns.

The information collected during an assessment is used by the physiotherapist to formulate a treatment plan based on your muscles, connective tissues, strength, endurance and most importantly your goals. Treatment can include education about the pelvic floor, home exercises, and techniques applied by the physiotherapist.

Be sure to wear comfortable loose fitting clothes such as shorts, a t-shirt or tank top to your appointment.
