Our Breath Wall

Part of the design concept for our 2021 clinic renovation was to create a therapeutic
environment for both patients and staff. We wanted the interior design to consider natural
material because it gives the thought of nature, which supports a healing frame of mind.

What better way to bring nature into a space than with plants. When you walk into our
waiting room area you are greeted with a large living wall filled with a selection of
beautiful plants which bring a sense of calmness to the room.

We have daily comments by people in our waiting room wondering how our living wall
works.

HOHC Charity Fundraiser: Breath Wall That Keeps on Giving

Since the inception of our Breathe® Living Wall we have been dreaming about a way we can share the beautiful bounty our living wall and surrounding plants have been producing.

HOHC has been promoting and supporting health in our community since 2003, so we have been thinking, what a better way to give back to the local community then by selling the bounty produced by the beautiful plants of our Breathe® Living Wall and giving that money back to the community? From this idea grew the HOHC Breath Wall That Keeps on Giving Charity Fundraiser.

Breath Wall- Health Checks

HOHC has teamed up with Florist expert, Sophie Li from Bloom 24 Floristry as part of our quality assurance program to ensure the health of our breath wall and surrounding plants. Sophie has provided expertise on how to care for our plant wall, including the best type of soil and fertilizer to use and how to properly propagate the different varieties of plants from our wall. We are very thankful for Sophie Li's support for our charity initiative.

The Fundraiser

Starting mid-June 2024, HOHC will begin raising money for local, not for profit charities and organizations by selling the bounty from our prolific living. We are currently selling a selection of the following plants:

$5 - 4" pots of Golden pathos & Spider plants

$10-15 - 6" pots of Peace lilies, Anthuriums, Jade and Bella palms

(Availability may vary week-to-week)

Monthly Silent Plant Auctions for larger, more established plants. Starting minimum bids are $25.00. Our June feature plant is a beautiful lush Boston Fern

All plants are available for sale in the waiting room of our clinic. We accept cash payments only.

The Goal

Through the sale of our plants, HOHC has an ambitious goal of raising $5000 for the local charity Adsum for Women and Children. To meet this goal we need a large supply of donated (good condition) 4" and 6" planter pots and saucers. We hope patrons of our community will donate or return purchased pots and saucers back to the fundraiser program.

Support for Adsum for Women and Children

Supporting our fundraiser will help Adsum for Women and Children continue to offer emergency shelter, housing, programs, and vital services to those seeking housing support.

Adsum houses 98 people in one of their permanent and affordable locations across HRM, 365 days a year, including the 25 apartments in their newly opened Sunflower in Lakeside. Adsum provides programs and services to hundreds more women and children in independent apartments and hotels through the Shelter Diversion and Housing Support teams.

Adsum is now also providing shelter rooms and support services to 185 people in The Bridge (formerly DoubleTree Hotel) in partnership with Dept. of Community Services and Dept. of Health.

Would you like to donate to Adsum for Women and Children without purchasing a plant? Monetary contributions can be made directly through their website or etransfer at https://adsumforwomen.org/donate

Donations from the Adsum Spring/Summer Wish List are also accepted in exchange for a plant. You can bring the wish list items directly to our office when you come for your next appointment. Click here for their full Wish List of items.
